India should switch from the incandescent light bulb to compact fluorescent lamps, Greenpeace India said in a statement in Bangalore, southern India. The move would help India save 12,000 megawatts of electricity, which accounts for almost 4.0 percent of its carbon dioxide emissions, it said. Incandescent bulbs lose 90 percent of the energy that goes into them as heat while a compact fluorescent lamp uses about 20 percent of the electricity to produce the same amount of light.
